Training Suicide Stoppers

100 social workers, educators, counsellors, administrators, and youth workers have official been trained in suicide prevention. The trained took place between May 24th and June 1st in the the Belize, Cayo, and Stann Creek districts. Dr Guy Llagan Assistant professor and counsellor at the Citadel College in South Carolina along with Clinical Psychologist Dr Jill Llagan, and Galen University life coach Kendra Hoyt facilitated the training. The participants are now equipped with the knowledge to conduct and practice suicide assessments, respond and monitor youths at risk with intervention skills like safety and crisis response planning. The training was carried out under the Enhancement of Therapeutic responses component of the Youth Rise Project whose goal is to strengthen the delivery of care and support to children who have been victim to child abuse and neglect.
