The PUP is also highly attuned to the dimensions of the human catastrophe in Guatemala.
In their statement yesterday, the Party said, quote, "At a time like this, we must put our differences aside and let our humanity rule. On Sunday, it was Guatemala. Today or tomorrow it can be us or any other country that is susceptible to natural disasters." End quote.
Briceno reiterated this in his press conference this afternoon:

"Yesterday our party issued a statement expressing our solidarity with the people of Guatemala. We join in mourning the loss of life and the immense suffering being brought upon the people of Guatemala as a result of the recent volcanic eruptions. We call on the government and all Belizeans to offer whatever humanitarian assistance we can to our neighbor Guatemala and with support efforts by the government to provide assistance through regional organizations."
Of interesting note is that in this part of his press conference, Briceno was delivering prepared remarks read from a teleprompter, a first for Belize.
