Seawell Suing GOB After Years In Jail
posted (June 8, 2018)
14 months ago, Mark Seawell was released from prison after 6 and a half years on remand for an extradition request from the US. That ended the 10-year saga that he and his other Seawell brothers endured, and well, he is now preparing to sue the Government of Belize for false imprisonment.

Today's edition of the Amandala Newspaper reports that his attorney, Anthony Sylvestre, has already filed his lawsuit with the Supreme Court Registry. In it, Seawell notes that he was imprisoned for 2,376 days, and he is seeking damages for that prolonged time in detention. He has named the Attorney General of Belize and the Superintendent of Prisons as the defendants in this suit.

In his lawsuit, Seawell is claiming that the Superintendent of Prison did not have the legal justification to keep him in prison for all those days.

The Sol Gen's Office has applied to the court to dismiss Seawell's claim.

His lawsuit is scheduled for a hearing before Justice Shona Griffith at the end of this month.
