Last week, the PUP's National Deputy, Cordel Hyde came out swinging for Senator Paul Thompson - who's facing a challenge in the Albert division form his fellow PUP Senator Valerie Woods.
Woods had made a political ad out of an endorsement Hyde gave her some years ago at a party function. So, Hyde had to step up and say he was with Paul Thompson, not Valerie Woods. He told us he was setting the record straight, but today on the campaign trail, Senator Woods said words have meaning and the special ones he reserved for her, he never gave to his friend Paul Thompson:...

"Cordel Hyde has asserted that the ad you have with him endorsing you as a politician is in fact a misrepresentation. That's the word he used and you are - the suggestion trying to dupe voters into thinking he is with you."

"No. Cordel never said those words about his good friend Paul, not once. Both Paul and I have served at the same time. It's unfortunate that he never gave such accolades to his friend. Listen, we call it for what it is - they are friends, but I must remind everybody that what the voters are telling me as I walk around, it's not Cordel Hyde that running. My opponent is Paul Thompson. Paul needs to find his voice and be his own man. Unlike my opponent I don't walk around with any leader in this party or any member or area representative in this party. I walk around with voters and supporters from the division, some who have joined me from outside of the division. I don't need my daddy and I don't need my big brother to talk for me, walk with me and sell me. I am real. I am here because I know I can do a better job."
Hyde also suggested that Valerie Woods - who had turned him down to run for Mayor in 2015 - was a kind of opportunist - running now that he and Paul Thompson had made delivered victory for the PUP City Council slate. She responded to that as well:...

"It is the very same Cordel Hyde who is the one that said I belong in the house. It is the very same Cordel Hyde who not too long ago wanted me to run his slate and be his mayoral candidate. Is the very same Cordel Hyde who admitted to everybody publicly in San Pedro and which I have aired publicly that I have this passion from way back when. So Cordel Hyde could say whatever he wants to say. I respect the man, he is my colleague and my friend. I will not go down the road with him where they are creating lies and tarnishing my name."
The convention is on Sunday.
