Off Duty Cop Saves Businessman From Ruthless Robber
posted (June 14, 2018)
For two weeks now we've been telling you about the rash of armed robberies at businesses across the city. Today one assailant took it to another level - he straight up attacked a businessman and tried to pull him out of his vehicle. It happened on busy King Street at 10:00 am, half a block from Albert Street - which is teeming with police, and in plain view of everyone.

The brazen nature of the crime was captured on security camera and Jules Vasquez looked at the footage:…

Jules Vasquez reporting
At a few minutes after 10:00 this morning - an Indian businessman is seen taking his time to climb into his Four Runner SUV. He lives and works in the area so is comfortable and at ease.

He's paying no attention to this man walking up, who just bursts towards the door, rips it open and tries to pull the businessman out or the wrest away his wallet.

By sheer coincidence, an off duty police officer just happened to be parked in front of the robbery victim springs out of his pickup, pulls his gun and sets chase after the would be robber.

He fires shots on the crowded street - and less than a minute later he returns with his suspect subdued.

Yolanda Williams, Lives in the area
"I live in the neighborhood. I just heard screaming and I look through the window and I heard gunshots and I hurried went inside."

The off duty cop marches his suspect to in front if his pickup, brings him to kneel and then waits for backup.

Within minutes the SPU is there to make the arrest.

Police have the suspect held pending charges - but we are told the business man who he tried to rob doesn't wish to give a statement against him.
