Cane Farmers Applaud Santander
posted (June 15, 2018)
The cane farmers associations in the north are rarely in agreement with the Government of Belize - and most of the time, are blasting them for one thing or the other.

But, not tonight. After a stern decision against Santander Sugar by Government's EPZ Committee, the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers association is patting GOB on the back.

As we told you last night, the EPZ committee decided that Santander will NOT get a waiver to sell sugar locally, and the company will face the maximum fine for selling sugar without a permit.

The President of the BSCFA told CTV-3 in Orange Walk yesterday it sounds good to him:..

In a release, Santander has apologized and said, quote, "a limited quantity of 204 metric tonnes of white sugar and 12.5 metric tonnes of brown sugar was sent to (a) distributor…Santander Sugar Ltd. will comply with all local authorities and recall all the sugar that has been distributed thus far."
