European Union Celebrates Accompanying Measures
posted (June 15, 2018)
Of course, they did that because the world market for sugar has collapsed and sugar producers need to find new markets. So, right now, the stakeholders within the Belize Sugar industry are trying to navigate the treacherous waters that is the world market, where competition is stiff, and the supply of sugar is in overabundance.

But, to help Belize make the transition where it can properly compete with other sugar producing countries, the European Union has invested 77 million Euros - or almost 180 million Belize dollars - in the north over the course of 12 years.

That funding came to the sugar industry under the program called the Accompanying Measures for Sugar, and that investment has funded improvements from many things, such as the upgrading of those terrible sugar roads as well as better farming techniques and practices for the farmers.

The Accompanying Measures for Sugar are now coming to an end, but to document the milestones that this program helped Belize's sugar industry to achieve, the European Union teamed up with the Government of Belize, and McNab Visual Strategies to produce a 30 minute documentary. It captures some of the highlights of the AMS, and today, it was unveiled publicly in a press conference hosted by the European Union.

Here's what the speakers had to say about the 12 years under the AMS:

McNab Visual Strategies has also produced a booklet form of this documentary, to summarize some of those highlights achieved under the Accompanying Measures for Sugar.

Tanya McNab tells us that these productions were a collaborative effort between her team, the Government, the EU and BSI/ASR.
