Yesterday tragedy hit San Pedro when 6 year old Daisy Acevedo was killed by her 9 year old brother - who accidentally fired his stepfather's gun. Tonight, that stepfather Shamir Myvette has been criminally charged for causing death by careless conduct. Though he was not at home at the time - police say that his careless actions allowed his stepson to find his gun and start playing with it. Around 7:15 am, the boy accidentally shot his sister in the neck at their home in the DFC area. She was rushed to the town's clinic where she died at 7:45 while Doctors were trying to stabilize her.
Myvett - who just got a license for the Glock 19 pistol last month - was immediately detained. Police briefly considered charging him for manslaughter by negligence, but ultimately decided on causing death by careless conduct. Myvett told police he had the gun locked in a draw.
He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow.
