Coc’s Killer Gets Manslaughter, Not Murder
posted (June 20, 2018)

He was accused of killing 31 year old Moses Coc on San Pedro by beating him with a stick - and, tonight, 29 year old Jermaine Moody has been found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.  The verdict was handed down today by Justice Adolph Lucas in a trial without jury.

Justice Lucas said that the Crown, from the evidence, was unable to prove that Moody intended to kill Coc.  Moody had given a caution statement to the police in which he admitted he killed Coc but said that it was in self defense. Moody gave a statement from the dock in which he said that he defended himself by using a stick because two men approached him to steal his bicycle.

He will be sentenced on July 16th for Moody's attorney, Oswald twist, to prepare pleas for mitigation. Moody has been on remand since September of 2014 - when the killing occurred.
