Assessing The Sugar Yield For 2017-2018
posted (June 20, 2018)

And, ASR/BSI is moving forward with high hopes - as, indeed, it must.

And a part of  those high hopes is based on increasing sugar yields.  When we spoke to him today McLachlan shared how this year's harvest and sugar production has gone...

Mac McLachlan - VP of International Relations, ASR
"The crop is pretty much on par with last, we're grown pretty much the same amount of cane so far from the crop that we had last year. There has been a few delays from the milling side while we bring some of this equipment online, we have to align it with the existing equipment and how we're working with that. We've had one or two of the inevitable delays mainly this crop due to rain, that's an impact. Rain in the agriculture business is a doubled edge sword, it affects with the mill because we get a lot more mud coming and it's difficult to process but obviously its useful in the fields because it helps with the newly planned cane. So in this business everything has a duel meaning but we're essentially it's been a crop similar to last year, we're anticipating in the up roughly where we were last year we made 142 thousand tons of sugar, we're already made 139 thousand tons this crop. We've done it in a slightly higher milling rate than last year and we're looking forward as a result of this investment project being able to push that rate significantly higher."

BSI is currently able to produce 6 different types of sugar, but as it goes into next season it's looking into developing more.
