Sentence Upheld, Appeal Dismissed
posted (June 22, 2018)
And the final appeal case we'll tell you about tonight is that of 30 year-old Tony Pasos, who was charged with murder, but convicted of manslaughter.

In August 2016, Pasos stood trial for murder for the brutal stabbing death of 51 year-old Miguel Moses Medina, who was also known as "Chino". On December 31, 2014, at around 6 p.m., Medina was socializing with a group of men at a small house on Fonseca Street in Orange Walk Town. The men had some sort of disagreement which escalated to murder and Medina was stabbed 42 times. He bled to death inside the house.

At the original Trial, Pasos was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter, and he was sentenced to 17 years in prison, minus the time spent on remand.

His attorney, Hubert Elrington, appealed that decision, and after considering Elrington's submissions on Pasos' behalf, and DPP Vidal's response, the Court of Appeal returned today with a ruling that the conviction and sentence is upheld, and his appeal is dismissed.
