Honoring Years Of Service
posted (June 22, 2018)
Working in the Public Service can be thankless job - where public perception stereotypes the government worker as inefficient, or just plain lazy. And then, some Government Department's have developed a reputation for corruption.

But, what about those diligent and honest public officers who work with pride and honesty, and go above and beyond the call of duty? Well, the Ministry of Public Service put together 2 separate award ceremonies to honor those Government employees with the longest tenure of service to the country.

The second of those 2 ceremonies was held yesterday in San Ignacio, and here's what the main speakers had to say to those public officers being recognized for their stellar performance:

Peter Allen, CEO Min of Public Service
"I would like to say a very good afternoon, especially to this year's awardees, those with 25 years of dedicated service and those extraordinary officers who will today be recognized in the first ever manifestation of that new meritorious awards policy, focusing of course on excellence in public service and on recognizing and celebrating that excellence. It has been my great privilege to be employed as a public servant in Belize for over 30 years. I have had the pleasure of working with many of you here today over those years and I can personally attest to your dedication and commitment. The public service is a family to which I am very proud to belong. And at this family gathering we are very happy to have opportunity to show our appreciation and give honor to all of you for your outstanding service to our people and to our beloved Belize. Councilor, I would like to join with you again in asking for you all to give yourselves a round of applause [all applaud]. The Ministry of the Public Service is very proud to recognize officers like yourselves, whose many years of dedication and commitment have kept the wheels of government working. From education and healthcare, to national security and emergency response, you have never failed us."

Darrell Bradley, former mayor
"It is also incumbent on us to stop and recognize those individuals in the public service who are really the gold standard. Those men and women who have given a life time of service for the advancement of this our Belizean nation."

Yesterday's ceremony was for the public officers who have served 25 years. There was a previous ceremony held at the Princess Ramada Hotel on Last Friday, where public servants with tenure of 30 years or more were honored.
