PUP Set New Date For Belmopan Convention
posted (June 29, 2018)
Last night, we told you how the PUP politician, Arthur Saldivar, managed to stop his party's standard bearer convention for Belmopan with a Supreme Court lawsuit.

Well, tonight, the Party released a statement giving an undertaking to the court that the convention will be put off until Sunday, July 8.

The injunction hearing is set for next week Friday - so the PUP seems confident that they will succeed - and be able to proceed with the convention. For his part, though, Saldivar is asking the court to reverse the decision of the party's vetting committee which disqualified as a candidate.

The PUP release says, quote, "The PUP looks forward to conducting the convention on Sunday, July 8, 2018 and wish the three aspirants all the best in their campaign."

As we told you those 3 aspirants being allowed to run are Oscar Mira, Michelle Rodriguez, and Wiezsman Pat. Party insiders tell us that persons from Saldivar's camp attempted to negotiate with the Party's leadership to allow him to run in the convention, and in exchange, he would drop the lawsuit. We're told that the negotiations broke down because the PUP leadership was adamant to in sticking with the July 8 convention date, but Saldivar's camp wanted 3 more weeks to prepare instead.

We spoke with Saldivar this evening, and he told us that he knows nothing of any such negotiations. He added that his position at this time is that he is awaiting his day in court.

He also confirmed that in his lawsuit, he is claiming compensation of over 200 thousand dollars, which he said he spent to finance his campaign for the Belmopan convention, which he has now been told he is can't participate in.

He insists that the party wouldn't have had to worry about his campaign bills if they had only followed the constitution, and treated him fairly.

We'll be at court next week Friday to tell you how his injunction hearing goes.
