posted (July 3, 2018)
70 political hopefuls want to offer themselves as candidates in 17 divisions for the UDP. That's the word coming out of the party after Friday's deadline for the submission of names.

Here are some of the more interesting names. As we told you, Mike Peyrefitte, Dean Samuels and Phillip Willoughby plan to contest Port Loyola, along with one other name: Ac. Shane Castillo.

And, in Mesopotamia - BQ Pitts has put in his name alongside Shyne Barrow. In Fort George, there are four hopefuls, including Mark King, and in Cayo South, there are also four names, including former area representative Ramon Witz, and the candidate in the last election Ralph Huang.

In Dangriga, there are three names: and we see mayor Francis Humphreys right there alongside current area rep Fank Pawpa Mena - who seems to be the only elected representative under challenge.

In Stann Creek West, there are 6 hopefuls, including Ivan Williams and Nathan Young, who ran in the last convention.

In Lake I, there are four including Dianne Finnegan and former UDP councillor Jason Edwards.

Many of these names are expected to drop out and some might not be approved by the party.

The PUP says it had 50+ applicants, and today the Chairman criticized five of the UDP's prospective candidates:..

Henry Charles Usher, Chairman, P.U.P.
"I find it interesting that 5 losing city council candidates are applying. It seems that they can't do anything else other than run for elections."
