Caring About Cops
posted (July 4, 2018)

A dinner outing, an overnight trip and a gift certificate. That's what 3 Region 1 officers walked away with as a reward for their outstanding service. Each officer got one prize. Two were rewarded for officer of the month for May and June while the other was recognized for his contribution to the community outreach programs. There was a short handing over ceremony at the Raccoon Street police station this morning where we met the distinguished awardees.

Sr. Supt Howell Gillett - Southside Commander
"Three of the officers, one is for the month of May, the other is for the month of June and the third is for the community outreach programs that this guy PC 1414 Shal has been doing. He has been doing the GREAT Program in the prison at the Wagners Youth Facility and he is the person in charge of the cadet at Rocky Road and also at Mayflower Street. Then Cpl. 782 Evaristo Cob, he has done a yeoman's job. He recently got a gun off the street but it is not rewarding him for the gun alone but it is for the collaboration and the engagement that he has and the trust that the public has in him so we want other officers to emulate his style of dealing with the public so it is in that light that we are awarding him and attendant to that he is the police officer responsible for detecting the fake police officers who were going around in Belize city and other parts of the country conning people so he was responsible for that and he also got a gun during that investigation and that case is before the court so we are very pleased with his performance and this is our way of saying thank you so much."

"Then the third person is Cpl. 415 Christopher Smith. He is being rewarded for the month of May. He had recommendation from all his supervisors at Precinct two and we are very pleased to be rewarding him. So the 3 things that the guys will be getting is a dinner for two at Chon Saan that is the Cpl. Christopher Smith. Then PC 1414 Shal will be getting a certificate from "Dibary" to shop and then Cpl. Evaristo Cob will be getting a night for two at one of Belize's most prestigious hotels."

Cpl. Christopher Smith - Officer of Month, May
"I feel very honored to have been selected among my peers to be officer of the month for the month of May. Well, I basically I just did what I sworn out to do which is to serve and protect and do it to the best of my ability and also as a supervisor at Precinct two, I do my best to assist all persons if I can and that is basically what I did. I feel very honored to be a police officer, a lot of people may not like us or the job we do but I wear this uniform with pride."

An officer is awarded every month.
