New Deputy For Gritty City
posted (July 4, 2018)

Region 1 Commander Howell Gillett has his Belmopan pal as his new deputy. That's Superintendent Dwayne Sutherland. Sutherland took up the post on Monday. We spoke with Sutherland at the police awards ceremony and he says he is ready to get to work in the gritty city.

Supt. Dwayne Sutherland - Deputy Commander, Region 1
"I am very optimistic in taking up this challenge. I am dedicated and committed in continuing to work with the general public in terms of providing safety and continue with the building of good working relationships with the community."

"I believe personally in two main policing strategies and community policing is one for sure and the reason being we can't solve crime or do much without the assistance of the general public. I also believe that it is high time that we concentrate on our young people, we know that young people are the future of this country and if we can play an integral part in trying to transform their lives and trying to mold them into productive and law abiding citizens that will make a difference in the near future. And secondly I also believe that we need to target those who commit themselves and want to prey on the innocent."

Sutherland was stationed in Belmopan for 3 months.
