Belize And Mexico, Friends for Over a Century

Belize has at least one neighbor with which it can celebrate friendly relations going back centuries. That is, of course, Mexico, and on Sunday, a handful of officials from both countries got together to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Mariscal - Spencer Treaty signed on July 8th 1893.

It was the first ever public commemoration of the treaty. The event was jointly organized with the Mayor and City Council of Chetumal. The one hour ceremony was held in the centre of on the old historical border bridge on the northern border between Mexico and Belize.
