Willoughby Resigns From NEMO, Was He Forced?
posted (July 11, 2018)

The race to see who will represent the UDP in Port Loyola is shaping up to be a very interesting one.  As we’ve reported Phillip Willoughby, Dean Samuels, Mike Peyrefitte and Shane Castillo all put in their names as candidates.

But, Willoughby has reportedly been under pressure to withdraw his name if he wants to keep his job at NEMO.  The news tonight is that he’s not stepping aside, and today and announced today that, instead, he’s resigning as NEMO’s Operations Office - a job he took up only three months ago.

A letter of resignation dated today to the CEO says, “I hereby give the required three months’ notice of my intention to terminate my engagement effective October 11, 2018…thanks for the opportunity…but I must now pursue public service in another capacity.”

We were told that Willoughby was leaned on to make it clear that he could not hold that government job while running for political office - even though that is a common practice in UDP political races.  So, he chose to resign.

Word is that the party power structure wants Willoughby out of the way, to pave the way for an ascendant Mike Peyreffite who is considered a favorite of certain higher up’s in the party.  Now that Willoughby won’t step aside - and had to sacrifice his livelihood to do it - it’s left to be seen how he will fund what will be a costly campaign.
