Haylock Bus Bex!
posted (July 11, 2018)

The PUP Belize City Council is being called out in what looks like a brewing bus fight over the runs between Belize City and Belama.

In a letter dated July 9, 2018, Godwin Haylock, attorney for Haylock’s Bus Service, wrote to the new City Administrator, Stephanie Lindo Garbutt.

He explains that Haylock’s Bus Service is the only company that is in possession of a valid road service permit to transport passengers from the Pound Yard Bridge in Belize City to Belama and back.

He then alleges that the city council’s traffic manager held a meeting with Haylock’s Bus Service in which  he granted permission to another bus company to make the same run.   Haylock warns, quote,“By granting a permit, the Belize City Council has usurped the Law, which allows only the Transport Board to grant permission to carry passengers.” End quote.

Haylock then informs City Administrator Garbutt that this letter serves as notice that they must revoke the “unlawful permission”, and intervene by removing any and all buses operating unlawfully on the Belama route. He then warns this must be done by Friday, July 13, 2018, and any failure to do so could, quote, “subject the Belize City Council to an unnecessary injunction, damages, and financial loss to Haylock’s Bus Service.” End Quote.  We could not reach the councillor in charge of traffic for a comment.
