Bank Worker Fined For Fatal Accident

Back in August of 2012, Shoshana Moody knocked down and killed Liang Shen Chen, and the Supreme Court says that she has to pay $15,000 for it.

She went before Justice Marilyn Williams today where she pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter by negligence. For her guilty plea, the judge sentenced her to pay a fine of $5,000 to the court, and an additional $10,000 to the estate of the deceased. She has until January 1, 2019 to pay the fine and compensation, and if she defaults, she will serve 6 months in jail.

The accident happened early on the morning of August 11, 2012, on the Philip Goldson Highway near the Haulover bridge.

69 year old Chen was taking his morning walk, when Moody veered unto the wrong side of the road, hit him and then collided into an oncoming vehicle.

4 witnesses gave statements saying they observed Moody driving fast and out of control, while heading out of Belize City. At the time, she was charged with driving under the influence.

Before deciding on a the sentence, Justice Williams heard pleas for mitigation on Moody's behalf from former Accountant General Beatrice Robateau, attorney Bryan Neal, and her brother, Duane Moody,. The prosecution was represented by Senior Crown Counsel Sheneiza Smith.
