A man got his charges reduced from murder to manslaughter after his case was tried at the Supreme Court in Belmopan. He is Stephen Gomez a resident of the Cayo district. He and Joseph Vacarro were previously arrested and jointly charged for the murder of Victor Vargas.
However, today Vacarro testified in court against Gomez after having had his murder charges dropped. Vacarro told the court that Gomez and Vargas got into an altercation that ended in Gomez stabbing Vargas in the neck and head several times.
Hearing the testimony, Gomez turned it on Vacarro, alleging it was Vacarro and not him that inflicted the stab wounds.
The judge did not find Gomez guilty of murder but of manslaughter given that there was an altercation between both men. Gomez is to return to court on July 30th for his final sentencing.
