Last night we had late breaking news about a City Council traffic officer who was caught in the worst kind of traffic violation: he was trafficking marijuana!
Tonight, we can tell you that he is 28 year old Stafford Young and this traffic man was trafficking something heavy: police say he had 12 pounds of weed in two knapsacks!
It. Happened at 6:15 - just minutes before newstime when police had their regular checkpoint near the Coast Guard Headquarters. They say Young tried to ride past heading to the city. But - even though he was in his traffic officer uniform - he was very conspicuously carrying two knapsacks: one on his back and another on his chest. So police brought him back to the checkpoint which he had already scooted past. They found 3.2 kilos of weed bundled in one bag, and 2.2 kilos in the other - for a total of 5.5. kilos, or a shade over 12 pounds of weed.
Young has been charged with drug trafficking and is spending his second night in lockdown until he is arraigned tomorrow. Because the quantity of drugs involved - depending on the discretion of the magistrate, he could be remanded. We'll tell you tomorrow what happened at court.
