J’can’s Survive 25 Days At Sea
posted (July 20, 2018)
3 Jamaicans are very fortunate to be alive tonight, after they were lost at sea for 25 days. They drifted all the way from Jamaican territorial waters to Belize, landing on San Pedro.

They have been identified as 50 year-old Noel Samuels, 23 year-old Romeo Lewis, and 44 year-old Karma Beckford, and they are all fishermen from Westmoreland, the westernmost parish of Jamaica. On June 23, they left their homes to go on a fishing trip in their 28-foot vessel. They intended to travel only 15 miles off the coast of Negril, but they began having engine problems. That caused them to drift out into the high seas, and they soon got lost. They drifted for over 700 miles - and almost an entire month - in open waters, surviving the ordeal, until the sea currents brought them to San Pedro, Belize.

Their vessel was discovered on Wednesday near Grand Caribe Resort on the island, and they were rushed to the San Pedro Poly Clinic for emergency medical treatment. It is expected that as soon as they are of good health, travel arrangements will be made for them return back home to Jamaica.
