A team of Belizean basketball players were on an ADO passenger bus that was involved in a major collision about 60 miles north of Chetumal this morning.
The team was coming from Cancun when the bus crashed head on into an open bed lumber truck.
According to reports in Mexican media, there were 40 passengers on board and one of them died. Reports allege that the bus driver and conductor abandoned the scene.
The team is the Trojans from Belmopan which had just participated in the Copa Cancun tournament and were heading home. Their coach recently posted this update on Facebook: "The team is glad to report that everyone is ok. (They) will return shortly to Belize with a few nicks and bruises."
