Wife Stabbed Him In Chest, Man Tells Court He Deserved It
posted (July 24, 2018)
3 months ago, we told you about 19 year-old Renesha Alvarez, the Belize City resident who was remanded for allegedly stabbing her common-law husband, 19 year-old Herman Solis in the chest. He almost died, but today Solis appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer and told the court that he no longer wanted to press charges against her. He dropped a line which left the courtroom stunned. He said, quote, "I want to drop the charge, because I deserve what I got." End quote.

Alvarez was taken back before the Magistrate's Court late yesterday evening. The Chief Magistrate intended to examine whether or not she should be granted bail, since she's been on remand for a little over 12 weeks now. But, before that could happen, Solis, approached the bench and asked to address the court - which is when he said he deserved what he got.

After explaining to the court about his relationship with the accused, Chief Magistrate Frazer explained to him that the charge of dangerous harm, which she is facing for his near fatal stabbing, is very serious offense, and that the court can't simply withdraw the offense because that's what he wants. She explained that he needed to go back to the police station and give another recorded statement detailing his intention to quit pressing the charge. After that, a directive will come to the court to withdraw the charge, and that's when Alvarez will be freed of all prosecution.

What the Chief Magistrate did instead was to grant Alvarez bail of $6,000, which she was able to meet. She has another adjournment in this case, where it is expected that if Solis follows through with the police witness statement, she will be completely free.

As we reported, the incident happened back in April of this year. Herman Solis told police that Alvarez, his common-law wife, saw a text message from another woman on his phone, and that started an argument. Solis told police that Alvarez then pulled a knife and stabbed him in the upper left side of his chest, near his heart. He was hospitalized for several weeks, but has now recovered enough to able to walk and move around freely.

And though they are both only 19, according to Solis, he had been living with Alvarez for the past 5 1/2 years .
