Health Warning About Blood Pressure Med
posted (July 24, 2018)
The Ministry of Health today issued a cautionary notice about a potentially harmful product called Valsartan, which is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure.

The release says that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has made a precautionary recall of the product. The recall was made because of the presence of an impurity which is found in the recalled products. According to laboratory tests the impurity may cause cancer. Of course, not all Valsartan medicines are affected. But some, according to the Ministry, have been identified in Belize.

The ministry says they have asked pharmaceutical importers and wholesalers to recall a specific batch of the Denk Germany and Activas UK brands. The ministry also asked pharmacies to stop supplying the product and immediately return the stock to the supplier.

As for users, the EMA recommends that patients continue using the Valsartan medicine until they contact their doctor or pharmacist as there is no immediate risk.
