posted (July 25, 2018)

For those on the heavier side, openly talking about your weight can be a bit uncomfortable and even embarrassing. And besides , confronting your weight problem means the fried chicken, meatpies, cheeseburgers and desserts have to go…and that is hard.

Well, a group of Southside women are putting all that junk away and reclaiming control of their lives. They are members of the "Keep Bouncing" workout class. It is a mixture of fitness and healing for these women. Courtney Weatherburne was out bouncing with the group this morning at 5:00 and here is her story.

Every morning at 5:00 these ladies push it through an hour long workout. They are part of a workout class called the "Keep Bouncing Crew". The class opened up last year but the initial plan wasn't to start a class, everyone just caught on after a Yabra resident, hired

The fitness instructor Delton Mariano better known as Stone, as a personal trainer.

Delverine Lammey - Participant
"I know that I was overweight for my age, for my height and I met Stone at my job site, I know him as a personal trainer so I asked him to be my personal trainer."

"So I take up that offer with the time I had at the time and we found a location, the Yabra Basketball court, and it was one on one training session. Then after that, we had another customer pass by and see what is going on and BOOM it hit from there, after that we just kinda get one of two person who joined."

Now there are about 43 registered members and it has turned into a Southside fitness club.

"The program is a Southside program, you know we try get people from the Southside who can't afford the exercise, and gym so this program is an affordable program."

Beyond affordability, it's a fun full body workout. I tried it out myself this morning at the Memorial Park.

"I use exercise from different variations, I like to use the Tae bo program. It consists of the jabs and the punches and the kicks and you do the routine and you do it with the music playing nice up tempo so we can move to the beat. After that we get into the cardio where we just push hard core, we focus on the arms, the legs, the abdomen that just kick in right there, everything, the entire body."

And the participants say they have seen a transformation in their bodies since joining the class.

Sheree Lord - Participant
"Since last August I have been at a 24 wide width now I am 16, nice, I have lost almost 32 pounds, it has been nice, it has been great, everywhere I go people say like how you look so good no, if you want to know how I look so good you come and meet me at the court and I will show you how I look so good."

Delverine Lammey - Participant
"When I started I had 222 pounds now I am down to 190 the last time I checked that was some months ago. And I have seen vast improvement and I can vouch for everyone else on board that they have seen improvement."

Kylie Bood - Participant
"Besides that people might look at the numbers and the weight loss and stuff like that, we do look at it but at the end of the day muscles starts building up you structure, your body, it gets tight, your legs, your arms so. Your stomach tone up, your legs everything, you actually have a lot of energy, you want to come out you know, people think about 5:00, you want to come out, your body automatically wake up to come out to do this."

And these ladies certainly plan to continue coming out until they get Stone fit.

The group works out every morning at 5:00. They rotate between different locations including the Yabra basketball court, BTL Park, Marion Jones Stadium and Memorial Park. They also have a one mile a day program. It is only $30 per month to join. If you are interested you can call Stone at 610-9115 or you can contact him via Facebook.
