Moving Forward With the Lessons Learned from Baby Etana
posted (July 26, 2018)
And while the Brian Brown arrest dominated today's news - what's more pressing for police is keeping the peace on Gill Street - where 3 year old Baby Etana Bennett was killed on Sunday morning and Eric Tillett was shot on Tuesday night.

Etana was shot to her temple as she slept with her parents, an especially ruthless and indiscriminate killing - and Williams says it is deeply hurtful to him personally and a call to action for the security forces:...

DCP Chester Williams, Commander - Operations
"As a father, I am very much disturbed with the death of the 3 year old. I don't believe that no child should be subject to that type of injuries and eventually death and when you have people who would be shooting in to a home not knowing who or what they are shooting at. It is senseless and must be condemned and so as a department we condemned those type of actions and we are doing whatever we can to be able to find those who are responsible so that they can be brought to justice."

"I want to express my sincere condolences to the mother of the child as well as the father. I spoke to both of them and I know it is difficult for them, but we are trying to see how we can work with them to hold up. Our minister met with them yesterday as well and gave his assurance that the police will be doing what we can to be able to deal with the matter."

Williams noted that they do have a suspect for baby Etana's shooting, but they need witnesses to come forward.

Yesterday, Port Loyola political aspirant Phillip Willoughby of the One Struggle movement made a contribution of $500 to the Etana's mom. He says the contribution was made through the kindness of Minister of National Security John Saldivar and Deputy Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.
