Taximan Chopping Was Cabbie Confrontation
posted (July 26, 2018)
Police have finally gotten a complaint from the taxi-man who was chopped up by one of his fellow cab drivers. It happened two days ago in front of the Ocean Ferry Water Taxi. Police said it was a typical cab driver dispute:...

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"There was a chopping incident earlier that Tuesday, just about 3:30. The matter was just reported to the police a while ago, hence the reason that your request was not met because the guy finally visited the station a while ago and made a report. He was Mr. Gerald Lewis. He was at North Front Street Ocean Ferry taxi stand when he had a dispute with another taxi operator, Mr. Buckley, and as a result an exchange of words began between the two of them. The situation got tense where Mr. Buckley pulled out a machete and chopped him three times on his body. Fortunately, the injuries were not so grave. He was admitted to the hospital, he was treated and he was released."

"Are you able to say if it was a commercial dispute, a dispute that taxi man always have 'you thief my customer' that type of thing?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"This has been an ongoing situation at that Ocean Ferry. Everybody is rushing to get a client and because sometimes they believe it is my turn, somebody comes ahead of me and goes with my client and those are the type of dispute that we have every day."

Police have been posted at some taxi stands to de-escalate tensions caused by non association cab drivers who steal passengers.
