Regional Agriculture Ministers in Belize
posted (July 27, 2018)
When it comes to Belize's regional integration, you always hear talks about CARICOM, and indeed, we enjoy a very good relationship with the Caribbean region. But as it relates to the Central American region, well, the relationship, although healthy, leaves room for work. It is with that in mind that Belize is hosting this year's second biannual meeting of Central American Agricultural Council of Ministers, C.A.C for short.

Minister of Agriculture Godwin Hulse is acting as the protem chairman for this regional meeting which forms a part of the Central American Integrated System, SICA. Earlier this week the visiting ministers were given a tour of some of Belize's primary agricultural production. In an interview conducted by the press office, Minister Hulse explained the benefits that Belize is set to gain from a closer economic tie with the Central American Region, particularly as it relates to agricultural products.

Today the ministers met at the Biltmore hotel in Belize City where they discussed common issues that faces the region as whole and potential solutions to these problems. Chief Agricultural Officer Andrew Harrison told us more.

Other issues discussed were potential threats to agriculture by climate change and the changing global context as it relates to trade. The next Agricultural Council meeting is to be hosted and chaired by Guatemala.
