Eight Years For A Life
posted (July 27, 2018)
29 year-old Jermaine Moody, the construction worker from San Pedro who was found guilty of manslaughter for the death of 31 year-old Moses Coc, will spend 8 more years in prison for his killing.

That's the sentence that Justice Adolph Lucas handed him today after consideration of all the factors in the case. The judge actually sentenced him to 12 years in jail, but 4 years were subtracted from that sentence because of the time he spent on remand awaiting trial. The judge also took into consideration the fact that Moody had no criminal record, and that he cooperated with police when he was arrested and charged.

The incident happened in September 2016 in San Pedro Town. Moody grabbed a piece of stick, which he used to club Coc over the head. That injury ended up killing Coc, but in the trial Moody told the court that he did it in self defence. In a dock statement, Moody said that he was forced to defend himself using the stick because 2 men approached him and tried to steal his bicycle.

He was charged with murder, but as we told you, he was later convicted of the alternative charge of manslaughter.
