Mexican Media: Notorious “Nene” from Sinaloa Is Belizean
posted (July 27, 2018)
On Wednesday evening, Chetumal police arrested a Belizean whom they say is a major player in Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel. He is Dioney Rolando, better known as "El Nene." It is believed that he answers to Zurisaday Villasenor Mendez, the alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in the area. Villasenor was famously held in Belize for guns and ammunition four years ago, but was granted bail, never to be seen again.

According to reports from Mexican news outlets, around 10:00 on Wednesday evening, "El Nene" was in a blue Nissan pickup along with four Mexicans.

They were attempting to cross the border into Belize when police spotted their vehicle acting suspiciously. The driver attempted to evade a police checkpoint, and a high speed chase ensued, which ended on the Chactemal bridge just a few hundred feet from Belize - when the men were finally intercepted.

Police say they did not resist arrest but, according to reports, they were observed making phone calls, presumably contacting their colleagues to rescue them. This alerted authorities who immediately called for back up. Inside the vehicle police found a firearm and cocaine. Belizean Dioney Rolando was arrested along with Manuel and Abel from Chetumal, Oscar Joel from Tamaulipas and Ulises from Mexico City. Police had to step up security at their compound once this trio was detained.
