No Headway In The Campos Case
posted (July 30, 2018)
If you don't pay 5 bitcoins by August 1st Omero Campos dies - those are the chilling words of an email sent to the Reporter newspaper, presumably by Campos' kidnappers. The email was sent to the Reporter last Thursday. Today police said they have no information regarding those emails.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, NCIB
"Well the police has not been furnished with that email but we are still doing out investigation in relation to that."

Reporter
"And then again in that email, it was specified that Mr. Campos was given 48 hours to and then again this morning we got another email saying that his 48 hours is running up, are you guys looking into that?"

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, NCIB
"No we have not been so informed but we will makes checks with the family to see if there is any new update."

The email ends with what seems to be an account number. As we have reported, Campos has been missing for over a month now. Police continue to work with the family in this case - but suspect the bitcoin appeals are from fraudsters.

Bze. Police Not Aware of El Nene

And so with the north still shaken by the Campos abduction, and all the drug plane movements, is it plausible to suspect that Mexican narco-cartels are moving into Belize?

That may have became a legitimate question last week when Dioney Rolando, better known as "El Nene" - Sinaloa cartel player was caught on the Chactemal bridge connecting Belize and Mexico. He had tried to elude a checkpoint on the Mexican side and was caught. Mexican newspaper reports say he is a Belizean who works for Zurisadey Villaseñor Mendez, the alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in the area - who had been caught at the free zone with a bunch of guns years ago.

Police today said El Nene is not on their radar:..

Sharissa Starred in Melchor

And, in less depressing news from the north, the mundo maya region hosted this year's Mr and Miss Culture International Maya pageant in Merida, over the weekend and one of the delegates from Belize came out on top. Sharissa Dominguez from Corozal was crowned Miss Culture International Maya yesterday. Earlier today, our colleagues at CTV3 caught up with the beauty queen who shared her experience. She says that although they prepared on a short notice it was enough to come out victorious.

Dominguez took home the crown for Miss Culture International Maya, while the delegate from Mexico took won the pageant for the Mr. Culture International Maya.

Patt Comes Through For Concepcion

Last month, Hugo Patt, the UDP Corozal North Area Rep., became the new Minister of Natural Resources, taking over day to day management of the Ministry from Dr. Carla Barnett. And, it seems that one of his first acts in office is to hook up the residents of the Corozal Village of Concepcion with lease titles.

Now, he says that these applications, like many others, have been stagnant in the Lands Department for several years, so today, he delivered 78 new leases to applicants who've been approved for land in Concepcion.

Courtesy of the Government Press Office, here's what he had to say to the new leaseholders:
