Gracie Rock Rebounding
posted (July 31, 2018)
The community of Gracie Rock got quite a scare yesterday when they heard a big boom and saw some large rocks being hurled at them from the nearby quarry. As we told you yesterday, some community members were alarmed by the situation because, although explosions are common in the area, due to the work at the quarry, this is the first time that stone debris reached dangerously close to their homes and children. National Aggregates Ltd has been operating at the quarry for five years but blasts have been happening at the site for well over 60 years. Since taking over, from the previous company in 2013, National Aggregates has made over 238 blasts and this is its first incident.

But, one can be too much when it comes to human safety, and the company accepts responsibility and has agreed to repair the damages and build two reinforced bunkers in the community for an added layer of protection should their be any future anomalies. Today the works began at the community center, which has since been cleaned. A team from National Aggregates was also onsite making a list of materials that will be needed for the repairs to the community center and for the construction of the two bunkers.

And as an added sign of good-faith, the company handed over a brand new television set to a resident who claimed that the vibrations of the blast caused his old one to fall and break.

According to National Aggregates the works are expected to conclude about three to four weeks from today.
