Burglars Break Into Electronics Store Through Roof
posted (August 2, 2018)
We often talk about organized crime in the city - where calculating criminals pounce on businesses with tactical precision after studying their operations.

And tonight there's a similar story coming out of Orange Walk. It happened at around 1 a.m. at Odette's Home Center, which is on Main Street in Orange Walk Town.

Three masked and armed men pounced on security guard, 52 year-old Jose Matus. The Manager told CTV-3 how these cunning criminals worked to neutralize all their security measures:

Eldo Cowo, Odette's Home Center
"Sometime 2am this morning, 3 individuals entered the premises and they held up the watchman. They ductape his feet and his hands and his mouth. They were wearing masks and they gained access through the roof. The security guard was not armed. The 3 individuals were armed. We don't have any footage, because the robbers took away the VCR that was taking the footage of everything inside and outside the building. These individuals knowing that they are being taped, I believe they studied exactly what they had to do. So they knew that the VCR was inside this office, so they gained access to this office and they took away the VCR which was recording the entire incident"

"I believe it's someone who knows with how the entire system. It's a sad situation and everybody is concern. Right now what we are doing is securing the building and get more advanced cameras that we could store the information elsewhere."

So, the trio stole as whole bunch of electronic items - mainly laptop computers and cell phones.

Here's more from Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino

Police say that they have several suspects.
