From Barbados to Belize
posted (August 2, 2018)
Since May, Belize National A Football Team has been in camp to prepare for this year's CONCACAF Nation's League. This international tournament is important because 16 of the 41 football nations - including Belize - who make up CONCACAF are trying to qualify for next year's Gold Cup.

6 of the national teams, namely, USA, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama, have the highest rank in this region, and therefore they have automatically qualified for that tournament.

So, that means there are 10 available slots, which the other 35 CONCACAF countries are jostling to get. They will do so via the Nations League Tournament, and football enthusiasts say that Belize has a very good chance of getting one of those 10, and qualifying for the Gold Cup.

But, Team Belize wants to test the state of its readiness for the tournament, and so, they've agreed to a friendly match against the Barbados National Team. The Bajans arrived this morning for the back end of a "home-at-home" series. Belize drew in the first game when they went to Barbados, and today the Football Federation of Belize held a press conference to tell fans why Team Belize needs all the love it can get for this friendly.

Here's what the Federation's Senior Vice President had to say to their Barbadian guests:

The friendly takes place this Saturday at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro Town.

And for the CONCACAF Nation's League Tournament, Team Belize goes up against the Bahamas here at home in September.

Then, in October, they will play an away game against Montserrat.

In November, they play another home game against Puerto Rico, and in March 2019, they play their final away game against Guyana.
