Fruit Stall Robbery Foiled
posted (August 6, 2018)
There was a daring hold up this morning at a fruit stall on Coney Drive. It started off as an innocent sale: two men came by the stall to buy a banana and then they left. But when they came back, one of the men pulled out a gun on the fruit vendors. Fortunately, the gun snapped and he was able to wrest the gun away from the culprit. Here is the account from the fruit vendor's son.

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"And these two guys came up to you guys, what did the guys say at first?"

Voice of: Son
"Because they say…I guess they bought a banana from my mom. So my mom told them sure, she gave them the banana, she didn't charge them and then they came back and said the banana wasn't good and that it was rotten so my mom told then go ahead, grab another banana and my dad had the knife behind his back because he knew the guy had a gun."

Courtney Weatherburne
"So your dad saw the man with the gun?"

Voice of: Son
"Yes my dad saw the gun in his waist so my dad just grab his knife and put it behind him and the young man tell him put the knife away so young boy pull the gun and the gun snap."

Courtney Weatherburne
"So he pointed the gun, he tried to shoot your dad."

Voice of: Son
"Yes he tried to shoot my dad but my dad managed to take away the gun from him."

The fruit vendors say nothing was stolen. They have been stationed out there for almost 20 years and say they have never been held up or robbed before.
