Bradley Says Re-register Naked
posted (August 7, 2018)
But, when you do go, make sure to wear sleeves, because - for example - if you have an outfit like what I have tonight - with your shoulders exposed, you'll be turned back.

Jules Vasquez found out all about that last week when he went to re-register sleeveless in Caribbean Shores as a challenge.

Today, Darell Bradley - who is the UDP caretaker for the Shores said a voter should be free to go re-register naked if they want to:..

Darrell Bradley, UDP Caretaker
"What I would say by way of a response is that the voter registration process should be facilitative rather than barring, so that arguably so, there are crimes against this, but I could theoretically show up to register to vote naked. That's a crime, but that does not affect my ability to really register to vote provided I have the proper documents. If an individual shows up to vote in slippers and in a sleeveless t-shirt, the important thing is that that person is registered. Not that that person dresses in an appropriate way and I think that we need to move away from these very shallow rules which the effect of them is to disenfranchise an individual - leave them frustrated and deny them the fundamental right to really participate in our democratic process. I don't see what a sleeveless shirt has to with your right and your capacity to vote. Actually I would argue if that is a rule. I am not aware that that's a rule. That to my mind would violate your constitutional right. Because the constitution dictates the criteria for voting. It talks about age, it talks about being a Belizean. In a section right below that it speaks about the residency requirements. It would be unlawful and Ultra vires the constitution for somebody to impose any other condition aside from those basic conditions."

Bradley is just back from a three week trip Zimbabwe where he was part of a Commonwealth election Observer Mission - we'll tell you all about that in tomorrow's news.
