Police Keeping Presence At Campos Residence
posted (August 7, 2018)
7 weeks ago, we told you about 43 year-old Omero Campos, the businessman from San Narciso Village in Corozal, who went missing from his farm off the San Victor Road.

His family's worst fears were confirmed a few hours later, when they received a call from an unidentified, Spanish-speaking person, who told them that they had Campos held hostage, and they were demanding 1 million dollars for his safe return.

After that, emails were sent to separate media houses, in which the writers of the emails were demanding cryptocurrency as ransom payment.

There has not been any credible connection made between those emails and Campos's disappearance, and though police suspected that maybe it was fraudsters trying to manipulate the family in a time of desperation, they followed up on the email source as a line of inquiry.

In that time, the cops have maintained a presence at Campos' family home, and reports to the press are that the captors haven't made any further contact with them about Campos' well-being, even though it has been an extended amount of time since he was last seen or heard from.

Yesterday, when the head of the National Criminal Investigations Branch was asked about the case, he said that police investigators don't have much by way of leads, but they are doing what they can:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"There is no new information. We still are continuing our investigation, and our operations within the immediate area still continues."

Reporter
"Sir, last time we met, you had indicated that you not gotten those emails."

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, we did, and those were shared with the family, and as a result, we have also increased our presence in the area."

Reporter
"Have you been able to determine whether those emails which we received are the same ones that the other media house had received?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"No, we were not able to determine that."

Reporter
"So, they don't have files to compare?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"They seem to have been sent from different [email] addresses."

Reporter
"Have you been able to establish then whether that email we got has any connection to Mr. Campos."

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Well, we are looking at that as we speak. Our technical people are looking at that."

Reporter
"Are you still conducting searches in that area?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, we are. I mentioned before that we are continuing our operations in that area."

Reporter
"But, you won't know whether or not he is still alive."

ACP Joseph Myvette
"No, that we do not know."

Police said that they attempted to work with their counterparts in Mexico, since the initial calls demanding ransom payment came from a Mexican number.
