Teenager Charged For Robbing Fruit Vendor
posted (August 8, 2018)

Police have charged the 18 year old Coney Drive fruit vendor robber. He is Jane Usher Boulevard resident Luis Beaton. He has been charged with attempted robbery, aggravated assault and kept firearm without a gun license. He pleaded not guilty when he appeared today before Magistrate Emmerson Banner. He was remanded into custody until October 16th.

The daring hold up happened on Monday morning around 10:00. The fruit shop owner 48 year old Carlos Ortiz was at his stall when two men came to buy a banana. They left but then returned complaining that the banana was rotten. Ortiz sensed that something was up and got his knife and hid it behind his back. That is when one of the men pulled out a gun and aimed at Ortiz, who says the gun snapped. He was then able to wrestle the gun away from the armed robber. In the police report it says that Ortiz cut the culprit on his arm with the knife. Well finally the men ran off but police caught up with them shortly after in the Dolphin Park area.

Police did recover 6 expended shells from the area.
