Boots Blasé On Building
posted (August 8, 2018)

Since May, we’ve been reporting on The Lake Independence Resource Center, a youth facility that will also be a multipurpose building. The 4.66 million dollar building is part of the wider Youth and Community Transformation Project funded by the CDB.  But when we visited today, construction seemed to be going at a snail’s pace, with only a handful of workers on site.  We note that progress had been made, but it is unlikely that it will be ready for this month - which is when it was scheduled for completion.  We asked the Minister about it yesterday, and he seemed unconcerned:…

Hon. Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Minister of Human Development
"As I understand it last week, I was in New Orleans with my CEO and I had a discussion with her that the project is near completion, that is what is said to me - that the project is near completion."

Jules Vasquez
"So it's advancing as per expected?"

Hon. Anthony "Boots" Martinez
"Well obviously if she is saying to me the project is near completion probably needs a month or two more - I believe that it is near completion."

The contractor, "Wood, Brick and Stone” is widely viewed as a front for a UDP friendly builder who had a hard time with SIF on a previous project.
