Brazen Mango Creek Robbers Put Guns To Shopkeeper’s Head
posted (August 9, 2018)
A trio of robbers pounced on an Independence village Chinese grocer. Yesterday morning around 7:00, store owner Su Juan Zhen had just opened Lukee store when three men barged in, one of them pointing a gun at her head. It was all caught on surveillance camera.

She put up no resistance, and the armed robber then cooly stepped over the counter and helped himself to the contents of the cash register while the other thief came with a bag and helped himself to a few on the counter goodies. All this while Zhen helplessly stood by-fearing for her life. The men then ran off. Today at the weekly press briefing, police told us more.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, NCIB
"The Independence police responded to the scene of a robbery at a grocery store in Independence Village where upon arrival the cashier reported to them that while at the business place she was approached by two Hispanic male persons one of whom was armed with a firearm who pointed the weapon at her and demanded money before jumping over the counter and emptying the cash register before making good their escape. Surveillance cameras were viewed and we are in the process of identifying who the culprits were."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Sir, I have heard complaints in that area suggesting that in fact criminals or criminal opportunists from Belize City have migrated to that area and are causing trouble in their village. How would you respond to that?"

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, NCIB
"Well there are constant operations being held by the police in that area. 3 persons are detained in connection with this robbery. We will see where the investigation goes. At this point the complainant has not decided whether or not she wants to proceed with charges."

Police have one person detained, but are seeking two others - who are believed to be from the city.

They stole about eight hundred dollars.
