The PUP says that the Vital Stats office was close yesterday, quote, "due to serious internal conflicts rooted in corruption."
A release adds, quote, "Several key personnel within the Unit have reportedly been terminated and as a result, the Unit is unable to carry out basic functions."
It continues, quote, "we in the PUP cannot accept that during this Re-registration Exercise, an important organization such as the Vital Statistics Unit is not providing this essential service…"
The PUP calls on the Attorney General and Registrar General to urgently explain what's happening in the office.
