In other news about our Central American neighbors, the Belize-Guatemala Joint Commission met today in Guatemala City.

The meeting was headed by the Commissioners of both countries: Belize Ambassador Alexis Rosado, and Guatemalan Ambassador George de La Roche. They were accompanied by a Special Representative for the OAS Secretary General.

In the last meeting, the two sides committed to make progress in implementing the bilateral agreements signed back in 2014, specifically the agreements focused on the movement of students, harmonizing the operating hours for border crossings, and Sustainable Tourism.

The Joint Commission also agreed to address the implement the bilateral agreements on the Protection of the Environment, and the return of Stolen Vehicles, at its next meeting. At that meeting, they will also address the establishment of a High Level Group of Forces of Security. They also want to review trade issues connected to the Partial Scope Agreement between the two countries.

This was the third meeting, and the next meeting of this Joint Commission will take place in late October, in Belize.
