Gunmen Robbed Puma; Police Caught Suspects
posted (August 10, 2018)
Police were quick to apprehend a pair of suspects after a Belize City gas station was robbed in broad daylight. At about 12:27 two gunmen ran into the Puma Gas Station compound at mile two on the Phillip Goldson Highway. One of them was armed and he held up the attendant - and the other also cleaned out his pockets and they ran off into a waiting Dodge Caliber.

Around 1:00 pm, a police mobile saw a similar vehicle driving fast in the Lake Independence area. They set chase and caught it at the corner of the George Price Highway and Chetumal Boulevard.

Inside, they found two men linked with a well known city gang, and a 9 millimeter pistol with extended clip containing 30 live rounds.

Commander of Operations Chester Williams told us more.

DCP Chester Williams- Commander of Operations
"Yes, there was a robbery at Puma here on ED 2. That will be in the precinct 4 area. And police quick response to that matter led to the apprehension of the suspects, the vehicle used and as well as the recovery of a 9 mm pistol that was used in connection with that robbery."

Daniel Ortiz- Reporter
"Did the suspects, did the robbers make off with any properties belonging to the gas station, sir?"

DCP Chester Williams
"At this time the police are still trying to ascertain if anything was stolen from the gas station."

Reporter
"These people have been arrested before for similar crimes?"

DCP Chester Williams
"I'm not going to go into that detail."

Reporter
"Anyone was hurt, sir?"

DCP Chester Williams
"No one was injured, no."

"Is it believed that the suspects are a part of the organized ring here in the city that have been plaguing both north and south sides?"

DCP Chester Williams
"No, these are different players."

"As the commander of operations, what sort of operations are there in place or measures put in place? We've seen an extra-ordinary increase of these sort of armed robberies."

"I am not going to spew our operational strategy. But I can tell you that we are doing what we can to be able to deal with those situations. And, you will appreciate the fact that no matter how much police you put on the streets, the criminals will always try to find a way to operate. But what we have put in place has been effective that to every time they strike we are there to catch them. And I will say this loud and clear, as a department we will continue to vigorously pursue those persons who want to be out there and relieve persons of their hard earned property."

We note that the two suspects caught in the vehicle, and the ones on the surveillance video are not the same. Police believe that the two men in the car, may have been driving the getaway car.

Also, one of the suspects caught in the car is the same man who was seen in a GSU chokehold back in June. He is well known to police.
