On June 9th, 22 year old Eugene Henderson Jr. was shot to the head at his aunt’s Roaring Creek home. Miraculously, he survived. He fought hard to try to stay alive but he had no more left in him. Henderson died on Friday night after 9:00. It was devastating for his family because they really believed he would have recovered. This morning we spoke to his mom about how it has been these past 2 months and about the shock of his death.

"Well from the day he was in the ICU, we visit him every day and see him there. He was in an induced coma. He was like just there and we visit him, talk with him. I go there every day I sing with him and I pray, I pray and pray until they said okay they will move him to the surgical ward and that is when we started to see progress in him because the doctor was telling us that is it a 50/50 chance that maybe he will regain consciousness or maybe he won’t regain consciousness. We prayed and after that we start to see progress that yes he regained consciousness, he responded, he could not talk but he moved his hands and everything and later on we started to get that he can write and tell us how he feels and what he wants and it was so wonderful when he started to do those things because he was fighting so much until Friday. It was the last day when he passed. That was the day I spent the whole day with him. I didn’t think that you know he will pass at night. I think he still had that spirit to continue fight…(crying)."

"And what did the doctors say, how comes he just died on Friday and he was showing all this progress, what happened?"

"We haven’t spoken to the doctor as yet today we will get to speak to them and find out what really happened because he was responding the same way like every day else you know."
Now as it relates to the case, police had already charged Roaring Creek resident Rudolph Welcome with attempted murder. He had gotten bail in July but he has been re-arrested and faces the upgraded charge of murder.
