Five Year Ban for Beating Female Referee
posted (August 15, 2018)

Last night you saw our interview with referee Yuri Daniels. Daniels gave football player Darnell Mossiah a red card for elbowing another player. Mossiah then knocked out Daniels. It was a heavy blow to the face leaving her with about 7 stitches and a busted jaw and teeth. Mossiah has been charged with wounding and fined with $2,000. Apart from that, the National Sports Council sent out a release yesterday saying that Mossiah is banned from all NSC owned facilities for 5 years. Now many have taken up this issue on social media saying that the 5 year ban is not enough and that there needs to some assistance given to Daniels for the injuries she suffered. Daniels believes that should be the case as well. Here is more from her interview.

Yuri Daniels - Referee
"I hope, I put my hope that they press a real good charge on him that will be the fair thing to do because the action that he took for me is not fair, it is just a game, for him to react that way. I am planning to put a restraining order if in case things go much longer with his family, if he is remanded to jail and fined, I will take a precaution to put a restraining order on him. I hope so this serves as an example to all those players who like to come in an aggressive way to the referee or thinking or planning to go in an aggressive way or punch the referee."

The NSC release ends by saying “Any club or organisation who violates this ban in turn may find disciplinary sanctions brought against them. We implore organisers of sporting events to have adequate law enforcement protection for our officials, athletes, and fans regardless of which sporting discipline it may be.”
