Kim Simplis Says Ban Not Enough
posted (August 15, 2018)

Today at another event we caught up with Special Envoy for Women and Children Kim Simplis Barrow and she weighed in on the female referee beat down. Barrow says it is appalling that no one bothered to try and help Daniels. Here is how she put it.

Kim Simplis Barrow - Special Envoy for Women and Children
"It has got to stop. I know a lot of people are saying oh the fine is - I can't believe that they only fined him 2,000 dollars and he's banned for 5 years. We need to address our laws, so we need our lawmakers to look at our antiquated laws and start addressing these laws because they're not helping. What happened over the weekend is just telling all these men and all the football players if they get upset they can go punch and all we need to do is just pay 2,000 dollars and you're banned for 5 years but you know what ever a little slap on the wrist; that has got to stop. For us who are advocates for gender based violence, whether its male or female doing the abuse, we have to step up and we have to press for change and we have to press to change the laws. It is shameful that there were so many people there, that they were so many males, where were the other players? Where were they, what did that do? They just walked away, they didn't hold him - I don't know because I wasn't there but it's really unclear as to what happened and I'm just saying that nothing was done because I didn't hear or anything else that was done but it is shameful; it is a reflection of our society and I am ashamed, terribly ashamed."
