Preparing for a President
posted (August 15, 2018)

President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) H.E. Tsai Ing-Wen is arriving in Belize tomorrow. That is a pretty big deal so everything has to be in place for this special visit. Today we saw the police doing a dry run to ensure the president is escorted safely. She lands in Belize at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon and there are a number of activities scheduled during her stay, including a special joint sitting of the House of Representatives on Friday. Foreign Affairs CEO Patrick Andrews told us how this visit solidifies Belize and Taiwanese’s close friendship.

Patrick Andrews - CEO, Foreign Affairs
"Basically we have been a very important ally to Taiwan and we want to continue building on that relationship and deepening on that relationship. We have a state visit and all the regalia that that brings. She arrives tomorrow so everything has been carefully planned by the protocol office and I want to take this opportunity to thank the team that we have that is gearing up and is preparing for tomorrow’s visit and finalizing her departure come Saturday."

"Can you speak briefly on the ceremonial sitting of parliament?"

Patrick Andrews
It is something we taught would be very appropriate to have a joint session on Friday so it will be a short session but it will have again all the pomp and circumstance reserved for this visit of the president."

We will bring you the story from this special visit tomorrow.
