More Accused Murderers Get Bail
posted (August 17, 2018)

The recent trend of Supreme Court bail for accused murderers continued today when 33 year-old Jermaine "Horse" Garnett, was allowed to go home after spending over 5 and a half years on remand at the Belize Central Prison.

He is one of 3 people who was jointly charged with the December 2012 murder of 19 year-old Raheem Requena. Viewers will remember that Requena, a 4th former from Excelsior High School, was ambushed and fatally shot 6 times while he was riding his bike on Kut Avenue. He was heading to his grandmother's house, when the gunfire erupted, and those bullets found their mark. 1 of them injured him in the chest.

Garnett, Cassian Bennett and Kenneth Barrow were all jointly charged with this offense, and as we told you 2 weeks ago, Barrow was released on bail of $40,000. Well today, Justice Herbert Lord gave "Horse" Garnett Supreme Court bail in the same amount. It came with the condition that Garnett must be at his home between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. everyday, until the case against him is concluded. He must also not interfere with any of the prosecution's witnesses, and he must also attend the Supreme Court for every adjournment of this case.

He was represented by attorney Anthony Sylvestre, while the DPP's office was represented by Crown Counsel Sherigne Rodriguez.

The only person who is accused of Requena's murder, and who is still on remand at this time, is Cassian Bennett.
